New up and coming artist, Honie Gold says, “I AM” in collaboration with Glate, a clothing brand based in Dallas, Texas.
The 19-year-old female rapper dropped her new hip-hop track Thurs., Jun. 11, now released on her YouTube channel.
Honie Gold shares what motivates her in her artistry and why she partnered up with entrepreneur, company founder and friend, Xavier Johnson, also known as “X”.
“I liked [Xavier’s] message because it was near the same message that I would want my fans to gravitate towards,” Honie Gold says. The two first became friends in college about one year ago and have always supported each other since.
“He’s always been an entrepreneur,” tells Honie Gold. She recalls Xavier started one of his first business endeavors selling durags every day at school. Once the two met, they shared their goals and aspirations to make it to the top.
“We would always talk about what we wanted to do in a year,” says Xavier. Starting from being a YouTuber to becoming a founder of his own clothing brand, getting into the fashion industry was never part of the plan.
However, selling t-shirts and hoodies is not the main focus. In fact, “[h]is company is helping other people and that’s also what I want to do,” says Honie Gold. He hopes that with Glate, he can offer a platform to those who have fought to accomplish their goals and dreams and motivate others to do the same.
At the age of eight, Honie Gold started out writing her own songs in her bedroom. However, it wasn’t until she was 18, she realized her dream to perform on stage and share her talent in rapping to the world.
“I had massive stage fright,” the rapper recalls.
She first performed a song she wrote on stage at a school talent show. “As soon as the beat dropped, all my worries and stage fright vanished,” tells Honie Gold. She continues, “I even had a choreography planned out and everything turned out perfectly. Then, when I was done, I felt like I was the bomb!”
“Confidence is my main message that I want somebody to take out of my music,” she says. She continues, “that’s basically what you need to be successful in life. If you feel like you can do it, then you will actually go out and do it.”
One day, she hopes to appear at the BET awards. “Even if you see me just sitting there, I’ll be happy,” she says.
